Grand Canyon Journal, Page 11

One of my favorite camping placeswas where the Little Colorado river meets the cold water of the Grand Canyon River, which comes from the cold water at the bottom of Lake Powell.  Exploring the Little Colorado, I immediately sensed there was more birds, insects (biting), and plant diversity than on the main river.  I found wildflowers, lizards, velvet ants, and lots of different flying insects, including Tarantula-Hawk Wasps and Robber Flies.  I noticed small Chub minnows hovering in the warm shallow waters of the Little Colorado sand bars.  An endangered river fish, literally living on the edge, because moving into the cold, dark blue waters of the main channel would mean instant death because of the cold temperatures.  A little further up the Little Colorado, I found larger fish hunting water bugs in the deeper rock crevices in the plant and slit laden waters.
