The sides of the canyon were cut through ancient shale that contained thousands of fossilized shells.   Looking up at  the  worn ceiling sections of the slate, I almost felt like I was underwater and imagined the collection of thousands of ancient sea life-forms which lived and eventually were fossilized within this rock.
