Having crossed into the new millennium, it hard to imagine that there still exists tribes of indigenous people called the Machiguenga who still live and thrive as they always have deep in the lowland rainforests of Peru.  In a world filled with advances in medicine, cures and treatments, gene mapping and genetic engineering, there is still mystery in the every day demand for healing.  A mother must still care for the welfare of her children based on her knowledge and experience passed down, unwritten from the ages.   She must balance the delicate and vital blend of knowledge, wisdom and spirituality from the resources at her fingertips to care for her children.  She is a modern day woman, as she too has crossed into the millennium.  Fending off illness with plants and herbs as well as spiritual tradition, these women embody the ancient archetype of the true Madonna in a modern world.
